Secret Mall Apartment w/ Michael Townsend

Secret Mall Apartment lead conspirator Michael Townsend joins us

Townsend has spent more than 30 years creating large-scale, ephemeral public art, founding the Tape Art movement, teaching collaborative drawing in hospitals and schools, and building projects designed to disappear physically but endure culturally. The mall apartment was one project among many — a piece of protest art that happened to be documented.

With the film’s sudden Netflix success, there’s an opportunity to shift the conversation beyond the headline and toward the artist’s larger body of work and ideas:
- Why Ephemeral Art Matters Right Now
- how artists respond to corporate control of public space
- Why audiences are embracing a documentary about defiance
- what it means when a “prank” reveals itself as serious cultural history
