Trickykid Top 15 Cosplayers of 2018 (NSFW)

I was introduced to the awesome & fascinating world of Cosplay a few years ago –
Sure I had seen people dressing up at movie premiers and the occasional costume at some nerdier events I’ve attended but seeing it so mainstream, in full force as an art form, sometimes even competitively so was an unexpected turn of events that led me to attending events & photographing cosplayers on both coasts in everywhere in the middle this year.
Cosplay has influenced the advertising industry, in which cosplayers are often hired for event work previously assigned to agency models. Thus, new variant of cosplay has developed in which cosplayers attend events mainly for the purpose of modeling their characters for still photography.
Some cosplayers have since transformed their hobby into profitable, professional careers thus introducing the Pro Cosplayer,.
Regardless of your an amateur, pro or just a first timer I wanted to recognize the people we met this year.
This is in no way some sort of comprehensive list or we think that we know best, just a fun list of fun people we ran into this year that we ranked based on traffic on our site & across our social media platforms. To qualify we had to have met you at least once in 2018, took your picture & you were a kind human being to my staff & I.
Enjoy!

TrickyKid Top 10 Cosplayers 2018

15) Savannah Poison

Where we met her: Fan Days Irving

We had the pleasure of meeting Savannah at the most recent Fans Days in Irving & she had the best Poison Ivy we saw all year. Spend 5 mins with her & you’ll realize the term “Stone Cold Fox” might be have been coined because of her. Super fit & talented as well as a recent winner of the Super Car Expo Model Search. When Hollywood starts to take notice of her, she is gonna explode, a total star & the REAL Queen of the Jungle!

14) Little Jem

Where we met her: Blizzcon

Jemima is a UK based cosplayer that we had the pleasure of meeting in Los Angeles this year & hands down not only one of the most talented, she is as kind as she is adorable. Hopefully the next time she makes it to the States she will stay for good haha. Excited to see what she does in 2019.

13 – Masha Izell

Where we met her: A-Kon

Masha is a Houston based cosplayer that continued to blow us away all year. One of my favorite things about cosplaying or what I think makes an exceptional cosplayer is fearlessness to be yourself. Masha has that in spades & her at times truly daring & always super sexy cosplay & infectious personality made her one of our fave people we met all year.

12 –  Angela Marie

Where we met her: Megacon (Tampa)

Angela Marie has to be one of the hardest working cosplayers in the game. A Southwest Florida resident, Angela goes by the name of Cindrella & she should be in your follow list on all of your social media accounts. She is unique and truly something special as she does that thing I love about talented cosplayers is that she brings her characters to life in a way that is truly an art form.

11 – Erica Long

Where we met her (this year): EVERYWHERE!

How this is Erica’s first appearance on our list in a modern miracle or just a complete oversight, we see everywhere we go and she’s always cosplaying something new, exciting & dead sexy. Her alter ego Scarlet Muse is always super friendly & seemingly everything she does is next level business.

10 – Bre Poisonne

Where we met her: Magfest

Bre is one complex & diverse entertainer – Yes, she’s a amazingly talented cosplayer, but that’s just where the fun begins. She’s also an aerialist, a fire eater & her gaming streams are some of the best in the game. Oh and she also happens to be genetically perfect.

9 – Emma Layne

Where we met her: Online

Fearless, just simply fearless is the best word to describe Emma Layne, that + extremely talented with the ability to seemingly transform into anything she chooses. Hands down my favorite Velma of the year & one of the my fave cosplayers ever.

8 – Christina Dark

Where we met her: Fan Expo Dallas

Christina is a Dallas based cosplayer we had the pleasure of meeting a few times this year as we are based in the same city & we feel extremely lucky by that fact. So excited to see what she does in 2019

7) Rei Yoshida

Where we met her: Colossal Con

Rei is a Florida based cosplayer & surely has to be the envy of everyone she knows – Why? Cause she looks AMAZING in everything & the sign of true talent/star she makes that shit look so effortless. Look at how diverse she is & KILLING the game.

6) Ale Kat

Where we met her: Fan Expo Dallas

Alejandra is Mexican and is so impressive in every sense.Goes by the cosplay name Ale Kat &  First of all, her grind is solid, we saw her EVERYWHERE this year really putting in the work & the miles. Second, she is so unique from any other cosplayer I’ve ever seen. Typically heavy-tattooed people might have difficulty becoming new characters where as Alejandra CREATES new characters – Easily my fave Supergirl AND Mary Jane this year.

5) Kami  Ferreira

Where we met her: CCXP

My apologies to all the other cosplayers but if we had gone by my faves versus click stats, Kami would have won – You ever see someone & have a hard time getting your head around the fact they even exist? That’s Kami – perhaps besides my wife, have I ever seen someone so genetically perfect is defies & all logic. Kami is so awesome, her cosplays are dazzling & beauty is so outrageously mind-melting you’d think she was made in a labratory if you saw her in person. Total perfection.

4) Joanie Brosas

Where we met her (this year) – Fan Expo Dallas

Quite simply – the Queen.

Ttwo years in a row Joanie came in first place & only taking it down to third this year & if you’ve ever been in her presence it would come as no surprise to anyone. She really changed it up this year, going All Red Everything. Bringing back arguably her most famous cosplay Vampirella (still the best Vamp I’ve ever seen) & instead of wearing red wigs she died her hair fire engine red & killed it all year, adding a horror twist and gracing the covers of Dynamite Comics title such as Red Sonja & the aforementioned Vampirella. Her Twitter feed is a delight of socially engaging inquiries, inspired photos & body/image positive messages that promote acceptance of all. Seriously, no one is doing cosplay this legit, this hot, with such a fun, positive attitude.
A Goddess & in the truest & every sense of the word.

I first met Joanie Brosas in her hometown of Salt Lake City in 2015 at the SLC Comic-Con Fan Xperience.
That con & meeting Joanie both set off a chain reaction that has led t me attending about a half a dozen events each year that helped me really get to know the Cosplay community & develop a deep appreciation for this art form.
We caught up with Joanie for an episode of TrickyKid TV live from the convention that you can see here.

3 – Taylor Bloxom

Where we met her: Next Level VGC

Known online as Rolyrat & in person can only be desribed as total perfection & even then that might still be an understatement.
Never has a cosplayer taken the top spot in 2 cosplays in the same year and Taylor had the best Poison Ivy AND Mary Jane we saw all year (& we saw TONS of both). It also must be mentioned that their is something indescribable about Taylor ‘s appeal that transcends & that’s what being a great anything is all about.

2) Pen Berly

Where we met her: Dragon Con

And now the award for my favorite single cosplay goes to Pen – Let me be clear:  You are NOT READY for her Taylor Swift. She even does the open mouth surprise thing Taylor does with perfection. The consumate cosplayer that not just creates wonderful outfits but TRANSFORM into her character. Stunning & drop dead gorgeous in everything she does, Pen is the one to watch in 2019.

1 – Danielle Denicola

Where we met her: Fan Expo Dallas

Ok so the award for the friendliest & just downright kind cosplayer of the year goes to the unforgettable Danielle Denicola. You combine her one of a kind charm with this height of talent & you have Next Level Business. Taking our Number 1 spot this year, nobody did quite as powerful, consistently unique and this breathtaking. We love you Danielle!

Remember Cosplay is for EVERYONE – Love to all & look forward to seeing everyone’s new cosplays in the New Year.
Happy Holidays!
